War

I think that in some cases war is uncivilized but then you get a war like the Revolutionary War that is somewhat civilized. I think in general, war is civilized( individual) because it is human nature to fight. There is nothing we can do. It is just our nature to fight. People before us (long before us) fought to and there was nothing they could have done. It was their nature to. It is human nature to hate.

Their are many wars that are uncivilized like the civil war that was over something so simple. The people agreed to follow their President and when Abraham Lincoln decided that slavery was not a good thing they rebelled. Lives could have been saved and precious time could have been spent with others. I think that if there is a point to the war, that is not just rebellion, then the war is civilized. However, if there is a war that is just rebellion or because people that came before them fought, the war is just uncivilized.

GBS

GBS stands for Geon Barre Syndrome. This is the disease that my older brother Darren has.

It  started when he was 14. It was the day after his birthday and he just started having really bad pains. He had these bad pains for about 2 years.  He was in the hospital for about 9 months the whole time he was sick.

  This is during the 2 year period he has not been sick.

He is sick again and it is really hard on everyone in my family but we are glad this is not the first time.

Book Review

Do Baboons like Basketball?

What in the world do magic, baboons, and basketball have to do with each other? Is there anything in common about them? In Rick Riordan’s Throne of Fire, These all seem to go together just fine. It does not seem like there is a second guess about whether these three things go together or not. Who would think these things go together?

            In the Throne of Fire, Rick Riordan does a good job with his characters. His characters are brother and sister but they do not normally act like they are. They are completely different but yet they are completely the same. The way Riordan connects all of his characters is incredible. All of his characters have some kind of tie. They all connect in some way or another. I believe one of the main things that gets people interested in a book are the characters. If the characters are interesting it makes the book so much more interesting. Without characters you do not have a story. The even history has characters. Right now we are characters of our own book.  The story in the Throne of Fire is told by the characters. Many times I found that I was in the characters shoes. The characters are what bring the book to life. Riordan does a really good job of bringing his readers into the book.

            The plot of the Throne of Fire, was extremely good. The plot just keeps moving and does not slow down at all. It keeps the reader on their toes. If the readers are on their toes the author could through anything at them and it would still be a shock. A giant baboon and a vulture sure mix things up. I sure would not want to get on their bad sides. (Wonder what would happen if I did? I guess I will not know.) Is there anything worse than a plot that keeps repeating itself and does not move forward at all? It is like the authors have amnesia and do not know what they have already written.

            Plots and characters have a lot to do with the way the reader takes the book. The book could be taken as, “Oh, just another book to read,” or “Wow! I cannot put the book down!” It all depends on the way the characters and plot work together. There is not a story if there is not a plot and characters. A good book has both. Throne of Fire is a good book that has an amazing plot and amazing characters.

Amazing

My brother has two dogs. They are both border collies.  One of the dogs is blind in one eye. He was abused when he was a puppy and his owner pocked his eye with a sharp object. I think it is absolutely amazing what my brother has done with these dogs. The darker colored one, Dash, is younger than the one that has more white. The dog that has more white is the dog that is blind in one eye, Champ. Champ cannot catch a Frisbee.

Champ fetches a lot more than Dash does, but they both do pretty amazing tricks.

My Future

I am writing as if this day were already here.

I am now a couple days from graduating from BYU with a Bachelor's degree in Sciences. I have studied biology, chemistry, anatomy, and physics. I am so glad that  I stuck with my ideas. I absolutely love science and I do not know what I would have done in another subject.

I am looking forward to teaching at a High School. I really love the idea of teaching and I think that I can help the students to learn the material in a fun way. What kind of science teacher would I be if I just lectured students and I was kind of monotone? I know I wouldn't enjoy that at all. That kind of defeats the purpose of being a teacher. Well at least to me. Teachers need to be fun, and easy to follow during a lecture.

I am going to change the world. Maybe not in the way I would like but, I can help lead the students that I teach to a position where they can change the world. There is nothing else I would rather do. If I wanted I could become some famous Biologist or something like that. I want to help others change the world and not just change it myself.

If I were to become a famous Biologist or Scientist, I would help those around me to achieve their best potential. I would want them to, but sometimes we are the ones standing in the way of our success. Nobody can stop me and nothing is impossible. I can choose for myself and I do not need anyone to tell me that.

This is what I believe I would be saying but...who knows what is actually going to happen.

Gorillas

While we were watching the Gorillas, I was feeling adrenalin and awe.

At the boys basketball game, against City Academy,  the game was tied. They went into a 4 minute overtime. For a while it was still tied but then Hootie shot 12 free throws in a row and they won. I was the one who was recording the game. I was shaking really bad. When the game was over we all gathered around the team and we screaming the whole time.

When we got back in the vans everyone was in awe about what just happened in 4 minutes. Before that game I was not sure anything like that was ever possible.

Another time, during the winterium thing, We were running our last timed mile. My mile time before was 11:06. I really wanted to beat my time. On my last lap, Jayson told me to look up. Everyone that I was running with was right there ahead of me. I thought for sure that I was going to be the last one when Sophie and Stuart started yelling at me to run as fast as I could. I did not get why they were telling me to run as fast as I could and nobody else that was in front of me. I ran to Jayson and my finishing time was 8:06. Everyone else that was running with me, ran by to finish and I finally figured out why Sophie and Stuart were so enthusiastic about me finishing.

My Birthday Week

        Okay. So....my birthday is coming up. It is closer than I would like it sometimes, but it has to come sometime. Now why does it always have to be during school(this is what I ask myself every year. It is really depressing). My birthday is on Tuesday. I think I will let you figure that one out. Please do not tease me about it(wrong year people).
        I am afraid that my Dad will do what he did to my Mom.
            How old is she really?

             
    I do not get to do what I want to do so.... I am depressed about it. I am happy that I have my favorite classes though. Why does everything have to be so depressing when you do not get to do what you want to do on your birthday?
       I am turning 15 and my little brother say that he wishes nobody could drive when it comes to me driving. The truth is I am a little scared myself about driving in traffic. I used to dive our big van for a little bit when my Dad would let me press the gas petal and turn the wheel(that was in Colorado, I do not think he would dare let me drive in the city before I get my permit.
        My Mom does not like the fact that her only daughter is growing up. My Dad just says that I will always be his little girl.

Today

One of my favorite quotes in the whole world(just the English speaking world) is:

This really tells me, why worry about the future or dwell on the past? We are given time now and it will be gone in a little while so do not waste it. If there is anything we regret, TODAY is the day to make up for it. If we did something wrong, TODAY is the day we make up for it. If we put things off they most likely will not get done. We have the chance now so take advantage of it. There is nothing in the world that can take us back to correct things or take us forward to prevent things. We can really only control what happens today. I strongly believe that.

Have you ever seen someone who refuses to smile? They almost act like the world is coming to an end(undoubtedly it is scientifically but,... not for a long, long, time). Our life is just moving on. We need to smile at what comes at us.

        

My Second Opinion of The Throne of Fire by Rick Riordan

      I really like The Throne of Fire by Rick Riordan. I think it is amazing how he can switch his writing styles from being nerdy to being a complete snob. The characters in the book that are “telling” the story just pull you right into the book. Most of the time, I cannot remember where I am until I look up from my book and see that I am in my room or in the school. The plot of the story is what really brings me in. When you have two completely different people who are brother and sister telling the story of what happened during that time of the day, there is nothing that keeps you on your toes better.

                Carter and Sadie really set the story up for what is going to happen next. It does jump every once in awhile but that is what gives the story some of the excitement. It is like jumping in between to totally different worlds. The villains in the story are always changing. The story cannot go on unless you have a villain, right? Where does all of the excitement come from without multiple villains? You cannot really have a story like that. Rick Riordan does a really good job on the details in The Throne of Fire, and he does a really good job of keeping you on your toes.

Chivalry Assignment

        My person to be chivalrous to was Robert. I bought Robert a Valentines cookie, I also did many kind acts. I complemented him a lot. 

        The two gifts that I would give Robert would be books and the gift of languages. I would give Robert the gift of languages because to me it seems like Robert is always trying to learn a new language.  

The Throne of Fire by Rick Riordan

What I think of The Throne of Fire so Far             

   I was very impressed by The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan. The Red Pyramid is the first book in the series. Just after reading a little bit in the book, I am already hooked on the book and it is really hard to put the book down. I am impressed by Riordan’s talent to write in the first and third person at the same time. There are very few authors that can do it.

            In this book, Carter and Sadie are continuing their learning experience with their magical powers. I really enjoy this kind of mythology and the added fiction story. They really just grab me and pull me into the story. Sadie and Carter are going on another adventure to help people. The way Riordan starts of his sequel is just like you jumped right into the middle of the story. It starts with some new excitement.  There are many new twists that definitely take some getting used to but it brings new excitement. There are new and undiscovered mysteries that keep the story going from The Red Pyramid that just keep drawing the reader in. There is nothing better than a book that just keeps bringing new excitement and challenges all the time.
